Wilhelmshaven is located at the northwest coast of the Jadebusen, a big bay at the North Sea. Harbour feeling pure, city life and maritime attractions merge in Wilhelmshaven into a very special experience. Since the JadeWeserPort was opened in 2012, Wilhelmshaven has got a container terminal which makes it independent of the tides. The biggest container vessels in the world can clear their consignment there. Wilhelmshaven is Germany´s biggest naval base and the biggest oil transshipment port in the country.
The annual events “Weekend at the Jade” and “JadeWeserPort Cup” attract many visitors to Wilhelmshaven. The Gafftopsail Schooner Eldorado offers day and evening sails in a sheltered area on the River Jade. After passing the Kaiser Wilhelm bridge and the lock, past the Jade Weser Port and the big container vessels, we sail towards the sea. Due to the mostly western winds the River Jade is an excellent sailing territory.
